A small carving vise that holds on a suction cup base instead of a screw clamp, for hand-carving small pieces at a smooth table or counter. It stands about 4.1 in (103 mm) tall on a round base about 3.1 in (78 mm) across, and its jaws carry four orange caps, each about 0.4 in (11 mm) tall, that hold the piece between them. Each order is one vise, as pictured.

What it does

  • Holds on a suction cup base: press the base onto a clean, smooth, non-porous surface such as glass, laminate, glazed tile or a sealed counter, then lock it with the yellow lever. Suction does not seal on raw wood, MDF, textured or dusty surfaces.
  • Jaw caps: four orange caps, rubber-type as pictured, each about 0.4 in (11 mm) tall and fixed with a small cross-head screw, sit between the metal jaws and your piece. The manufacturer does not list their material.
  • Screw jaw with a T-handle: turn the red-tipped T-handle to close the jaws. The manufacturer lists a clamping range of 50 mm (about 2.0 in).
  • Light and small: about 8.1 oz (231 g), with an aluminum alloy body as listed by the manufacturer, so it moves easily from one work spot to the next.
  • Rotation: the manufacturer lists 360-degree rotation for this vise.

Use & care

Check the vise when your order arrives and contact us through the contact page if anything is damaged. Press the base onto a clean, smooth, non-porous surface and lock the lever; check the hold before you start cutting toward the vise. This is a small hobby vise for light hand-tool work: do not strike it with a mallet or use it to hold work for power tools. When the hold weakens, release the lever, wipe the suction cup and the work surface with a damp cloth, let both dry and press the base down again. Keep the jaw caps free of chips so they sit evenly on the piece. The manufacturer gives no other care instructions.

Your questions, answered

What surfaces does the suction base hold on?

Smooth, sealed, non-porous surfaces such as glass, laminate, glazed tile or a sealed counter. Suction does not seal on raw wood, MDF, textured, cracked or dusty surfaces. The manufacturer does not list a holding force, so test the hold with light pressure before you carve.

How wide do the jaws open?

The manufacturer lists a clamping range of 50 mm (about 2.0 in). It does not say whether that is measured between the metal jaws or between the caps, so allow some margin when you size your piece.

Can I use it with a mallet or a power tool?

No. It is a small hobby vise for light hand-tool work such as knife carving, filing and sanding small pieces. Striking it or holding work for power tools can break the suction seal.

Is the small key in the photo included?

One photo shows a small L-shaped cross-head key next to the vise. The manufacturer's package list names only the vise, so we do not promise the key.

What is it made of?

The manufacturer lists an aluminum alloy body. The orange jaw caps look like rubber in the photos, but their material is not listed; the base is a black suction cup with a yellow locking lever, as pictured.

How big and heavy is it?

About 4.1 in (103 mm) tall with a round base about 3.1 in (78 mm) across, and about 8.1 oz (231 g).

Ships from our international warehouse; typical delivery within the United States is 7–14 business days.
